The USAID Virtual Internship Program (Summer 2022) is designed to provide Interns with substantive work assignments, which expose them to the benefits of a Federal career. The work assigned in most bureaus or offices varies. This is a remote working environment.
Please note that a small number of interns may be assigned to work at our missions located worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Typical assignments include a variety of research projects, writing program memoranda, facilitating meetings or special events, performing analytical work, attending program discussions, communicating on USAID program issues.
- Interns are assigned to work in offices and bureaus throughout the Agency. Interns in all areas are expected to perform some assignments that are administrative in nature.

- Enrolled in a qualifying academic program.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
- Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer is required.
- Min. GPA 2.0 undergraduate; Min. GPA 3.0 graduate
- Must sign pathways agreement, if selected.
- You will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination by November 22, 2021 or before onboarding with the agency, if after November 22.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet position qualifications requirements as shown below at the time of appointment.
GRADE – LEVEL OF EDUCATION
GS-4 – Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate’s degree.
GS-5 – Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree.
GS-7 – Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate-level education, or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement* Provision and completing a bachelor’s degree.
GS-9 – Completion of 2 academic years of graduate-level education, a master’s degree, or equivalent graduate degree.
Superior Academic Achievement is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
- Class standing — Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
- Grade-point average (G.P.A.)— Applicants must have a grade-point average of:
- 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B” or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or
- 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B+” or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
- Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society — Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (external link).

College Transcript: Applicants must submit a copy of their most recent college transcript that lists the school’s name, student’s name, degree program, major, GPA, college courses, the course title, and the number of credit hours completed. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted; however, should you be selected, official transcripts will be required before your appointment date. If your college transcript does not list all of this information, you must provide supplemental documentation from your educational institution that specifies the information missing from your transcript.
Accepted for Enrollment: If you have been accepted for enrollment in an institution but have not yet begun coursework, you must submit an Acceptance Letter from the institution AND the most recent academic transcript from your previous program.
