Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo is a well-known respected Nigerian academician and philanthropic icon who has made significant contributions to the development of education and humanity in Africa. Prof. Gwarzo has a long and notable career in business, humanity, edu-prenuer, and academia. Prof. Gwarzo was born on January 1, 1978, in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in French, Master of Arts, PhD in French Linguistics, and another PhD in Higher Education all in France. His dual Professorship made him be Professor of Modern European Languages as well as a Professor of Leadership respectively.
He established his first University in Niger Republic in 2013 in his late 20s as the first bilingual university and largest Private University in Sub-Saharan Africa. The University was named the Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN) Maradi. It was honoured to immortalize the former first lady of Nigeria Hajiya Maryam Sani Abacha.
About 10 years after the establishment of MAAUN Niger, He also established another MAAUN Nigeria in the ancient city of Kano State. As Nigerian Campus, Kano admitted over 2000 students across Sophomore (Level 200) and Freshmen (Level 100) since 2022 when the programs kick started at the University.
Currently, the Founder and Chairman of MAAUN Niger Republic and Nigeria Professor Gwarzo established an additional two universities which include Franco-British International University Kaduna, and the Canadian University of Nigeria, Abuja. Both universities’ arrangements are made to begin their operations sooner. He also holds the title of Pro-Chancellor at IHEARIS University, Togo.
In appreciation of his outstanding contributions to education and humanity, Professor Gwarzo has received several awards and honours from academia, students, government agencies, NGOs, Development Partners, and communities across the globe.
He was awarded the title of “Sarkin Yaki Da Jahilci na Afrika” by the Niger cultural authority in collaboration with organizations for his contributions to education in the African region. He was recently awarded as the Innovative Leader by the World Education and EDTech 2nd, in New Delhi, India 2023.
In addition to his academic achievements and contributions, Professor Gwarzo is also known for his philanthropic activities and programs. He has established his foundation known as the Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation supporting local and international scholarship programs to uplift the education of poor and underprivileged students in Africa.
One of his most notable impacts includes supporting African public and private universities with luxurious busses to cater to the needs of students’ transportation and provision of mobile ambulances. Other areas include renovation and equipping police stations, training of CSOs, sensitization of Imams, health workers, women and young girls’ entrepreneurship education, and funding for business in rural and urban areas.
Professor Gwarzo in his capacity through his foundation also supported various people to address their health bills including drug maintenance and supplying foodstuffs to orphans, poor and vulnerable members of society among many others. This is in addition to the construction of classrooms, offices, toilets, and furniture to enable conducive learning and increase student enrollment in rural communities.
In addition to his philanthropic work, Professor Gwarzo is also actively involved in community development creativities. He has served on the boards of several non-governmental and development organizations supporting Almajiri education reforms, entrepreneurship, innovation and creative hubs with ideas of internationalization and professionalization skills. He is one of the leading figures known to be working tirelessly to promote peace, business ideas (support), and development in Africa.
In conclusion, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo is a remarkable academician and Humanitarian exemplary personality who is making noteworthy contributions to education and human development in Nigeria and Africa. His devotedness to changing the lives of poor, under supported and vulnerable families and communities including students and his tireless work in encouraging peace and development in the African region and beyond have earned him respect, love, and role model, mentorship titles whereby many individuals crave to be like him and associated with millions of people.
