A lecturer at the Department of Geomatics, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Surv. Adamu Bala has won “The Survey Review Biennial Prize 2022” for a paper presented at the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Working Congress held in Warsaw, Poland from 10th – 16th September 2022.
The prize consists of €2,000 and a waiver of $3,085 charge for standard article publishing in the Survey Review-Journal (Taylor and Francis).
In addition, the paper, entitled “Mapping and Suitability Analysis of Existing Electoral Polling Units in Katsina Local Government Area of Katsina State, Nigeria”, will be used by the international body as FIG’s “Article of the Month” in its newsletter.
Malam Auwalu Umar, the Director, Public Affairs Directorate, ABU Zaria, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Zaria.
According to him, Bala received the Survey Review Biennial Prize 2022 on behalf of five other co-authors of the paper namely, Saied Piraste, Yahaya Abbas Aliyu, Abdulazeez Onotu Aliyu, Swafiyudeen Bawa, and Ibrahim Abdulwahab.
The outgoing FIG President, Prof. Emeritus Rudolf Steiger, and incoming FIG President, Dr. Diane Dumashie, presented the prize to the young surveyor during the FIG General Assembly Session.
The President of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria, Surv. Clement Ikpeama Nwabichie and Vice-President National, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Surv. Tahir Badamasi, FNIS were in attendance during the award presentation.
The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) is a premier international organization founded in Paris, France on 18th July, 1878 to represent the interests of Land Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors as well as Estate Surveyors, and Valuers.
